CALIFORNIA & NEVADA - Tahoe NF to Host Open Houses on Forest Roads Analysis

The Tahoe National Forest will host two public open houses in October to discuss the forest roads system and look at the relationship between roads and various resource impacts. The open houses are part of engaging the public in Subpart A of the U.S. Forest Service's 2005 Travel Management Rule. Subpart A is an analysis of the forest's road system. The open houses are an opportunity for the forest to share information and the public to help inform the ongoing analysis.

BLM Sacramento Listening Session

I attended the BLM 2.0 Listening Session in Sacramento yesterday on behalf of the BlueRibbon Coalition.  As many of you know, this is part of the BLM's ongoing effort to improve the management of the nation's public lands by working more efficiently with the public and partners. Both the Denver and Sacramento meetings provided an overview of the effort as well as facilitating group discussion on methods to improve the BLM's planning process.

UTAH - Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forests Seek Public Comment on Draft SEIS

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is seeking public comment on the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement ("draft SEIS") for the Ogden Ranger District Travel Plan Revision Project. This draft SEIS was initiated in response to a March 20 12 U.S. district court order instructing the Forest Service to address deficiencies in the previous environmental analysis and the 2007 record of decision for travel plan revision on the Ogden Ranger District.

IDAHO - Nez Perce-Clearwater Forest Plan Revision Collaborative Meeting Scheduled

The Forest Plan revision collaborative meeting postponed because of the Johnson Bar fire has been rescheduled to October 18, 2014.  This meeting will include a brief overview of forest planning and the proposed action, how to comment on the proposed action, and a question and answer session with interdisciplinary team members. NORTH CAROLINA - Forest Service Announces Next Round of Plan Revision Meetings

The National Forests in North Carolina has announced the schedule for the next round of meetings held as part of the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests management plan revision. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. Each of the six meetings will be held from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Every meeting will have the same agenda and present the same information, and provide opportunity for public review and comment.

Recreation Groups Settle Illegal Wilderness Lawsuit

BOISE, ID (October 6, 2014)--A newly-filed settlement agreement would withdraw restrictions on motorized and mechanized access to "Recommended Wilderness" Areas (RWA) in Idaho's Clearwater National Forest. The settlement comes in a lawsuit filed in 2012 by the Idaho State Snowmobile Association and the BlueRibbon Coalition, which alleged that the Northern Region of the Forest Service (FS) created an internal "recommended wilderness policy" that illegally limited management options.

Just a quick reminder for all you snowmobilers: the public lottery for the Non-commercially Guided Snowmobile Access Program for Yellowstone National Park ends this Friday, October 3, 2014. On September 3, 2014, the National Park Service (NPS) announced a public lottery to determine the trip dates for Non-Commercially Guide Leaders wanting to visit Yellowstone this coming winter season (2014-2015). IDAHO - Nez Perce-Clearwater NF Extends Forest Plan Revision Scoping Comment Period

The Forest Service has extended the scoping comment period for an additional 60 days on the Forest Plan Revision for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Information gathered during this scoping period, as well as other information, will be used to prepare the draft plan and the draft EIS. Comments must be received by November 14, 2014.
