BRC wants to join with our land-use partner the California Association of 4WD Clubs in urging OHVers to send in public comments asking the Eldorado National Forest to keep ALL of its high elevation "alpine-type" meadow routes open for motorized use. The public comment period for the Eldorado Draft Supplemental Impact Statement ends on April 8.

REDDING, CA (March 25, 2013) -- Leadership and collaboration emerged as key tenets in a meeting of a California commission that addresses OHV recreation in public lands. The Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission (OHMVR) toured the BLM's Chappie-Shasta OHV area on March 22 and held a formal public hearing in Redding on March 23. The OHMVR Commission and Division are part of the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

DENVER, CO (March 25, 2013) -- Multiple use trail users praised a federal court decision rejecting an effort by anti-access preservationists to close 14 southwestern Colorado trails to motorcycle use. The decision was issued Friday, March 22, by Chief U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger in a lawsuit brought in early 2012 by the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Colorado Chapter against the U.S. Forest Service.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Price Field Office (FO) is now seeking public comment on the Geezer Backbone Trail Environmental Assessment, (EA) which analyzes the potential impacts of Carbon County's proposal to designate and maintain an existing OHV trail in Carbon County. The BLM is considering granting a right-of-way (ROW) for this proposal. All activities associated with the trail would occur within the authorized limits of the ROW.

RICHMOND, VA (March 18, 2013) -- Longtime supporters of the 4x4 sport, the Bay to Blue Ridge Cruisers of central Virginia stepped up and donated to BRC to help the cause. Several club members, including racer Rob Matzell made the trek to King of the Hammers (KOH) in southern CA last month and were able to link up and do a check exchange photo opp with BRC Ambassador Del Albright.

David Claiborne from Idaho State ATV Association (ISATVA) emailed with a very important action alert. H 279, the bill that keeps the purchase and printing part of the Idaho OHV/Snowmobile registration program out of the hands of the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), passed out of Committee yesterday. Claiborne reports that it's headed to the House floor for a vote, and it may come as early as Monday. (See BRC's latest blast here.) That means we need to get the calls and emails started right now.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Price Field Office has announced that there will be a recreation planning meeting held at the BLM Price Field Office (125 S 600 W, Price, UT) on March 13, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. The agenda for the meeting includes the discussion of recreation projects and travel management, including the San Rafael Dessert Route Inventory. The Forest Service has released, for review and comment, the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) Southern California National Forests Land Management Plan (LMP) Amendment. The proposed amendment would revise land use zone allocations for select Inventoried Roadless Areas within the Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernardino National Forests.
