Fun Days in Bernice (Leadville) 6/19

Frontier will be heading up to the Leadville area again this weekend for some wheelin', some camping, and some trail maintenance.

All are welcome.

2008 Trip info

Quote:
We'll be out of Bernice, again, a bit north of Butte on I-15.

Instead of camping at the Whitehouse Campground like usual, we'll be
motoring past Whitehouse (which has a well and an outhouse for those
interested) and heading up towards Rock Creek, and we'll camp at the top
under the power lines, near the upper-entrance to "Leadville". Dry
camping, no services. Motorhome accessible.

The 4GB chip got corrupted and I'm trying to recover what I can.. but in the meantime..

And my train did just fine.

Looks like 22.6 miles from Boulder to the Rock Creek trail turn off where we were camped.

I fueled up on the way down, and stopped again on the way back after driving through Boulder once or twice to find an open restaurant on Sunday.

Aside from any meandering in Boulder, that's 45.2 miles round trip from the pump to camp and back.

I burned 7.3 gallons for something like 6.2 mpg. 13 miles of highway each way, or about 10 miles of dirt road.

I just saw this Tom. I would have loved to come up and visit a bit. Maybe next time!

Nope, if it dries up enough I will be disking and if it's wet I will be down in Bozeman on Sat working on the buggy Sad

? You think you're gas milage is that bad?

If you run into trouble give me a hollar and I will be around the ranch on Friday.

I'm still running a single 15gal fuel tank.

6mpg is about the lower limit I've had, which is 90 miles. I think it is a little more than 45 miles of Interstate from my place to Bernice, plus running up and down the dirt roads - so we'll stop on the way down to make sure, and stop on the way back, to avoid having to find an even less fun place to refuel.

I do have two 5gal cans so if I have to shuttle fuel from the pump to the rig, I can. Laughing out loud

Really need that 33gal Blazer tank installed..

Are you coming out this weekend, Rob?

Tom When are you leaving.

The plan is to leave work around 2pm - after the kids have had nap time at daycare, with time enough to get there and have camp ready before it's bed time. Smile

You?

First attempt.. it'll be a slow, unhurried drive down to Bernice while I feel it all out.

Well, the Scout runs, the truck runs, the GN is road worthy, camper check.. mostly loaded now.

62.5' and about 18-19,000 lbs. (6k for the truck, 4k for the gooseneck, 5.3k for the Scout, 2-3k for the camper (2k dry, 3k loaded)

Weather man says it should be dry on Friday - I'm hoping, because if it's not, I'll be unloading the Scout well before we reach camp. Jockeying around my field to hitch up was a bit challenging, but not like before the Winter Baja when I had to get Tigger locked up and strapped to the truck to move it around.

One of these days I'll get that driven front axle slung under the truck..

I need to pick up a 6" drop hitch - the 4" drop that I use with the Green Scout isn't enough - water was pouring out of the overflow thanks to the camper not being level.
